Dear Alumni, Family and Friends,
We wanted to express how excited we are to celebrate the legacy of Springfield College Gymnastics and specifically, the 35-year careers of both Cheryl Raymond G’82 and Steve Posner, this upcoming Homecoming weekend on October 20 and 21. We hope that everyone can make the trip back to Alden Street and celebrate our tradition of excellence, which has been growing since the first team was organized in 1891.
The Springfield College men’s and women’s gymnastics programs were built by talented and innovative individuals and it has been an honor to be added to a short list of legendary coaches. These former coaches helped create a culture that has helped mold a dedicated and engaged alumni base, and we look forward to continuing to meet all of you and hearing the stories that have shaped these programs into something special.
We hope you enjoy the following video message from several student-athletes who were able to take a study break during final exam week. Be sure to email us some of your favorite memories, numbers, themes, and travel stories from your time to help inspire us create a show for you. Please send them to homeshow@springfieldcollege.edu.

While I am hopeful you received a save the date postcard, I want to personally invite you to join our gymnastics celebration on October 20-21, 2017, where we will pay tribute to Cheryl Raymond G’82 and Steve Posner and their 35 years of coaching excellence. It will be special to have you all come back to Alden Street, so we can honor two coaches who have played such an important role in many of your lives. Coach Raymond and Posner helped develop our rich history of excellence in the classroom and in competition among the two programs with over 300 All-America honors, numerous individual national champions and team championships.
With Coach Posner’s retirement at the conclusion of this academic year coming on the heels of Coach Raymond’s retirement in the spring of 2015, we have a unique opportunity to collectively celebrate their service to Springfield College gymnastics over the past three-plus decades. Their dedication and commitment during their tenures helped continue Springfield College’s legacy as one of the premiere gymnastics programs nationally. In fact, to date Springfield is one of only 14 institutions in the entire nation to have both a NCAA men’s program and women’s program at the NCGA level.
This tradition was built on the shoulders of some coaching titans, and I’ve had the privilege of speaking directly with former Springfield College gymnastic coaching icons, including Coach Wolcott, Coach Murray and Coach Potter, and was thrilled to learn that they are all planning on attending our celebration!
I look forward to having you back on October 20-21, as we not only celebrate Homecoming Weekend, but also so that you can meet the new gymnastics coaches and recognize and honor the excellence that Coach Posner and Coach Raymond displayed during their three-plus decade service to Springfield College.
